Amenity Land
Recognising the importance of public access to nature and the wider rural environment.
Our rural team manage and maintain over 2,000 acres of land across Bute for the purposes of public recreation and enjoyment. This does not include our beautiful broad leaf woodland, which many community members enjoy.
Many people believe our core focus is forestry and agriculture, but the reality is we are passionate about Bute and ensuring it continues to be one of Scotland’s most celebrated island communities.
So whether you are a golf enthusiast, hiker or enjoy a gentle meander around the Island’s coastline, you likely have enjoyed some of the amenity land held and maintained by the Mount Stuart Trust.
Across the Island, we welcome people to:
- 6.6 km of sandy beaches
- 2 piers and slipways, including Calmac’s port at Colintraive
- 3 Bowling greens
- 1 Airstrip
- 3 Golf courses
- 96km of public footpaths, including the West Island Way
- 5 fishing lochs
- 4 community gardens
In addition, we facilitate responsible access from campers and motorhome enthusiasts, support sporting activities through a third-party lease and provide the land used for Bute Fest. If you would like to speak to us about our approach to public access, please get in touch.
