Conservation

Protecting the biodiversity and species that call the Isle of Bute their home.

One of the factors that makes the Isle of Bute so special is the unrivalled access to nature and some of Scotland’s most celebrated species. We are lucky to be home to rare birds, red squirrels and beautiful and rare flora and fauna. Many of these can be seen from the West Island Way, a stunning trek running the island's length.

Our Countryside Ranger is constantly out and about on Bute, managing, maintaining and enhancing our land to ensure we create an optimal environment for our local biodiversity. We work year-round with organisations such as the Bute Conservation Trust to maintain footpaths, monitor rare bird species and plant trees.

You can find out more about our birds, seals, moths, red squirrels and more by visiting the following groups:

- Beachwatch Bute

- Bute Conservation Trust

- Bute Museum

- Bute Bird Group

- Moth Group

- Red squirrel Group

We would also love to hear from you if you spot any interesting plant or animal species on your travels around Bute. If it is safe to do so, please take a photo and send us some details to rural@mountstuart.com
