January Supper Club: Mount Stuart Royal Naval Hospital
1916 Staff of Mount Stuart Royal Naval Hospital with Chief Surgeon William McEwan. The Bute Collection at Mount Stuart.
Join us on Friday 31st January for a fascinating evening with our Archivist, Lynsey, marking the 110th anniversary month of Mount Stuart becoming a Royal Naval Hospital.
On the outbreak of the Great War in the summer of 1914, the 4th Marquess and Marchioness of Bute immediately offered up Mount Stuart for use as a Naval Hospital. The 2000+ patients that convalesced there were testament to the work undertaken by the Bute family and hospital staff over the four-year period.
7th January 2025 marks the 110th anniversary of the opening of Mount Stuart as a Royal Naval Hospital.
How were the patients transported? How were the spirits of the patients, and staff, maintained? And, just how was this all funded? All will be unveiled in this very special presentation by Mount Stuart Trust's Archivist, Lynsey Nairn.
