Location: Mount Stuart

From Castles to Camels: Scottish Silver with George Dalgleish - May Talk & Supper Club

The Annandale Bowl & Stand c.1725-6 - The Bute Collection at Mount Stuart.

Join us on Friday 30th May for a fascinating introduction to Scottish silver, its makers, and its marks, with the legendary silver specialist, George Dalgleish.

Silver vessels have been made and used in Scotland since the Roman times, but it is only since the 15th century, with the arrival of hallmarks, that we can identify who made what and where. George will try to unravel the mysteries of hallmarks, assaying and alloying, while also looking at some of the fascinating characters who practiced this highly skilled craft in burghs across Scotland.

The Bute Collection at Mount Stuart holds a remarkable collection of Scottish silver, and we are delighted to be welcoming George to Mount Stuart for a riveting evening focusing on the Bute Collection's unique Scottish silver treasures.
